A New Leaf Mental Health and Wellness Center is proud to offer substance abuse evaluations, substance abuse treatment, referrals, education and the 12-Hour Drinking and Driving Class to Iowans. Our office is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Our company was formed to offer a variety of substance abuse services to individuals who experience barriers to obtaining necessary treatment services including those who are under-insured, have language barriers, or cultural barriers. In addition, New Leaf provides E-Therapy (treatment by phone or computer) for those with transportation issues or child care problems that would otherwise prevent them from attending appointments. After working in numerous substance abuse settings in Iowa, we felt a “revolving door” existed. High rates of recidivism, lack of customer service, limited ability for patients to guide their own treatment, and sometimes disrespectful treatment of patients by counselors and facilities, made the whole field feel like an extension to the court system.
Our history includes implementing one of the first substance abuse programs in Cedar Rapids which gave patients a choice between traditional 12-step treatment and an evidenced-based modality of treatment, allowing self-determination for patients in regard to treatment modality. In addition, we reviewed bus routes and chose a facility easily accessible to the public. We recognize that no treatment methodology works for every patient as no individual is the same. Therefore, treatment is individualized and consists of 12-step work and evidence based treatment in partnership with The Change Companies which offers a curriculum-based treatment option.
A New Leaf provides substance abuse evaluations including those that are court-ordered, probation, DHS, employment and self referrals. For more information please review our Services page.
Our Philosophy
The philosophy of New Leaf is based on the belief that addiction to alcohol and drugs is a chronic and progressive disease which can be at the least destructive and at its worst, fatal. We believe that recovery from this disease is possible with support from others who have walked a common road, either with their own addictions or hand in hand with friends and family on their journey toward recovery.
As treatment providers we have to continue the learning process to keep up with the increasing challenges of the mental health, addiction treatment and medical profession. New Leaf offers training to meet the needs of individual counselors and organizations. Workshops can be designed around the training needs of programs and the treatment they provide.
